Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived in a musical family on 9 August 1993 in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is the daughter and cousin of the singer Dionne. As a child she performed in the New Hope Baptist Church choir in Newark. By the time she was 15, Houston had sung professionally backing vocals with her mother in Chaka Khan's 1978 song Im Every Woman. In the year 1981, she was a model and also appeared on the Seventeen cover. She also performed the backing vocals for Lou Rawls and Jermaine. The vocals she sang with the New York-based group Material brought attention to major record labels which included Arista. The label signed her to Arista in 1983, where she spent the remainder of her career. Whitney Houston was her debut album. A number of hit singles, such as the hit songs Saving All My Love For You How Do I know It's Good to Love You as well as The Greatest Love of All were released on the album. The album won her first six Grammys. Its Whitney 1987 record, with Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as songs, grew on the success she had achieved. But the 1992 film The Bodyguard sealed her spot in the top 20 most-sellers of all-time. The movie and her role in it was not well received, but the soundtrack as well as her version of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You was a hit for a few months at the top of the charts. In all, she sold more than 44 million albums and singles worldwide. The same year, she married Bobby Brown who was a former New Edition singer. She was the sole daughter of Bobby and Bobbi Kristina Brown on March 23, 1993. Around this time when her well-documented substance abuse began. By 1996 she was an everyday user.
